Mixenden Past and Present: Halifax Visitor Centre & Art Gallery
An exhibition by Mixenden History Group, in association with Mixenden Initiative and Calderdale Libraries, Museums and Arts. Mixenden History Group was set up in 2007 and its members have been doing extensive research into the history of the area since then. The community exhibition based on these findings provides a fascinating exploration of many aspects of Mixenden and its people, including: the countryside, local farming and industry, housing through the ages, churches, schools, sport and leisure pursuits. Admission is free and the exhibition runs until 28 September 2008

8 The Egton Show
An agricultural show on Wednesday 20th August from 9- 6pm.  Admission Adults £6, School children under 16 £2, children under 5 free.  Plenty of free car parking.

Pigfest 2008, Ripley Village, near Harrogate
This Scarecrow Hunt is a great family day out in Ripley Village (just off the B6165), 10am - 5pm. There is a piggy theme and each 'scarecrow' has a pigs head and a piggy name. Hunt for Boarglar Bill and his friends who are situated all over the village to have a chance of winning one of four great prizes. Entry is £3 and all money raised goes to the upkeep and restoration of All Saints Church, Ripley. The village is also aiming for the world's biggest knitted pig - help us complete it by knitting a 5" square and win a prize if you guess its name correctly.

8 Leeds Festival
It’s the 10th year for the Leeds Festival and is again being held at Bramham Park, Leeds

Grainthorpe Festival of Arts, Grainthorpe nr Louth
From 10.00am to 6.00pm daily ,the festival has
80 artists with nearly 400 paintings for sale, a flower festival and numerous craft stalls, cafe, and B.B.Q.

Annual Show on Sunday 24th from 2pm at North Kesteven Sports Centre, Moor Lane, North Hykeham, Lincoln

8 Big City Jazz - Leeds

A diverse range of artists from the swinging and smooth sounds of traditional jazz to the cutting-edge cool and funky contemporary version. Chill Out Sunday focuses on the old-school sound of traditional jazz while world-famous jazz DJ Gilles Peterson headlines Jazz on the Square on Bank Holiday Monday. There will also be a number of festival fringe events around the city.

8 Chapel Allerton Short Film Festival, Leeds
The first ever will take place at Seven Arts on Harrogate Road from 7-10pm. The festival aims to include a varied programme of films of all types, with a focus on local talent. Tickets are now available at £5 each (or £3 for concessions) from Radish (128 Harrogate Road, Chapel Allerton).

8 Chapel Allerton Arts Festival 2008, Leeds
Starting with the Short Film Festival and culminating in three days of music, dance, stalls, children's activities and art on the streets of Chapel Allerton, this is a week-long festival celebrating talent within the local community.

8 The Spalding Rock & Blues Festival
A great FREE family day out at The Drayman's Arms, Little London, Spalding. Live music, a belly dancing troupe, face painting, children's rides, hog roast, bbq and more. The event is raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Shiregreen Community Festival, Hartley Brook School
The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Jane Bird is opening the festival at the school on Hartley Brook Road, Shiregreen, Sheffield S5. David Blunkett M.P. will also be in attendance. The theme is diversity in the community with free amusments, craft stalls, free food and much more. From 12 noon - 4pm

8 Festival on the Moor -  The Osmotherley Gathering

This year's event will be in Osmotherley with a full programme of folk music & dance events throughout the weekend. There's something for everyone with workshops, musicians sessions and concerts. £25 weekend ticket, concert tickets from £5.

8 Wild Wild West Weekend - Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway
Visitors are being warned to be on their guard as notorious local cowboys ‘The Wild Bunch’ are renowned for holding up trains! Trains will be running from 10am – 5pm, normal fares will apply throughout the weekend and money raised will be donated to the Special Baby Care Unit at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. Visitors need to beware this charity event isn’t for the faint hearted!

8 Bingley Music Live

Happy Mondays headline on Saturday with Bradford's own Terrorvision. Other confirmed acts over the weekend include Delays, the Infadels, Alabama 3 and The Sopranos. Echo and the Bunnymen close the show on Sunday 31 August. Advance tickets for the Saturday £12.50. Tickets on the gate £20. No tickets required for the Sunday as it’s free! Gates open at 11.30am, close at 9.30pm Sat and 8.30pm Sun

8 Sunday Sports Challenge, Temple Newsam
St. Gemma’s Hospice would like to invite you to their first ever family sports day at 10am  Choose from sponsored walks of 2 miles, 5 miles and 10 miles in length, a 5 mile sponsored run and bike rides of 15 miles or 40 miles.  There will also be stalls, entertainment, games, refreshments and school sports day style races, so something for all the family!  Entry to the events costs £7.50 for adults and is free for children.  To register call 0113 218 5570 or visit
