On May 1st elections were contested in three of the local authorities in the Westcountry region. One third of the seats in each council were up for election, a total of 45.
The table below shows the councils holding elections, the controlling party, their majority and the results of the contest.

Although no councils changed hands, the results overall were poor for Labour. The party lost seats in Exeter, where the balance of power shifted in favour of the Tories, who also strengthened their grip on Plymouth. The Lib Dems a gained a couple of seats but pretty much stayed where they were.
