Should bagpipers have to wear headphones or ear plugs to bring them into line with EU laws?

Tell us what you think. Send an e-mail to lookaround@itv.com but remember you must include your name and hometown before we can share your views. Here’s a selection of some of the replies we’ve had so far.

And we want to know what you think about that. New EU laws say workers shouldn't be exposed to noise over 85 decibels. But a pipe band at full volume peaks at around 122 decibels. Should bagpipers have to wear ear plugs to protect them from themselves?

Or should the EU leave them to use their own common sense?

Geoffrey Everson contacted us to say that European legislation should not be allowed to affect how bagpipes are played. He says they've been played in the region for centuries it's a Scottish tradition - leave them alone.

John from Gretna says its one thing advising people that they should wear earplugs but people should be able to make their own minds up.

Alan from Workington thinks that pipers having to put plugs in their ears so they can't hear what they are playing is ridiculous as well as other things that are being put on us by Europe. This is Britain not France or Germany - our way of living is different to theirs.

Margaret Skinner called to say the idea of not hearing bagpipes is terrible and taking away a nationality’s identity.

Robert from Dumfries says the EEC are interfering far too much in our day to day life that is what is wrong with this country.  They should leave us alone and let us get on with things.

Sarah thinks it is ridiculous that pipers should be told to use earplugs it is stupid.

Ronald Kennedy from Coldstream says they should leave the good old Scottish bagpipes alone they are not too loud.

Frank Caplin from the Isle of Man says we should tell the EU to …off and mind their own business they are running our country too much these days.

Mrs Black doesn’t think we should be listening to the EU. She says they should get us out of it.

Anita thinks they should put a noise limit on fireworks.  They are very loud and frighten some children and animals.

Colin Burnie thinks Europe should leave well alone because of their silly rules.

Mary Paisley from Langholm thinks it is ridiculous their have been pipe bands for hundreds of years without earplugs.

Frank Armstrong from Maryport says will someone tell the EU to mind their own business.

Elizabeth from Jedburgh says we should be issued with earplugs so we don’t have to listen to these so called experts in the EU talking rubbish.

Bagpipes are a part of Scots tradition the EU should keep their nose out and do something useful Robert Duncan age 21 from Stranraer.

Good idea for young pipers just starting.  A bit late for me now.  Why should we be dictated to by the European Union when they know nothing about piping.Pipe Major Ian Wemyss , Kirkcudbright Pipe Band.

If I walked up and down the street with something generating 122 Decibels I would be arrested for Breach of the Peace. Why should they be any different, they are a flaming nuisance. Get rid of them! Stuart from Carlisle.

More lunancy. The E.U. is very bad news. Anyone who thinks otherwise will (in my humble opinion) discover that when its too late (not that we got any say in it). Say GOODBYE to Britain. Jayne from Manchester.
