The National Union of Teachers has called for a one-day strike today (Thursday 24 April) over teachers' pay.
This is the first NUT national strike over pay for 21 years and has been organised in full accordance with the requirements of the law.
The strike follows a lengthy campaign during which the NUT has repeatedly drawn attention to the frustration of teachers about the effects of below-inflation pay increases on:
-
their living standards and those of their families;
- recruitment, retention and morale;
- and on the long-term future of the education service.
The University and College Union are also striking on the 24th. The UCU are dissatisfied with their own institutions over low pay and mounting work pressure. Find out more here.
