David Leslie |
Those who died have not yet been formally identified but they are said to include passengers Mr Lloyd and David Leslie, 54, a former British Touring Car Championship driver along with pilot Mike Roberts.
According to reports, Mr Roberts, who lived in Effingham, Surrey, was director of Flight Consultancy Services, based at Biggin Hill.
The business flight had taken off from Biggin Hill Airport and was heading to Pau, in south west France.
Mr Lloyd enjoyed incredible success both as a driver and a team boss after starting racing in 1967.
His personal successes include the British Touring Car Championship and his
team Apex Motorsport which began as GTi Engineering in 1977.
This team saw successes in the Brands Hatch 1000km and under the name of
Richard Lloyd Racing, at Le Mans. After a second place at the race in 1985 with Lloyd driving alongside two team colleagues, the team made a third place
comeback in 2001, with the team, now named Apex Motorsport, finally winning the race in 2003.
Mr Lloyd and his team were also linked with Audi and Bentley, helping them
build and develop cars. Apex Motorsport was wound down by Lloyd until it was
revived in 2006 to develop and run the Jaguar XKR in the FIA GT3 Championship.
Neighbours react
Neighbours said that the family who live at the crash site address are believed to be away on holiday.
Karl Mills, who lives just across the road from the crash, said: "It nearly hit my house. I thought it was going to hit us."
He added: "It was the loudest noise I have ever heard. All I could see was a big ball of fire and smoke coming from the house."
Rachel Bancroft lives just around the corner from the crash site and said smoke can be seen from blocks away. She said: "There are about three helicopters flying around - it's just crazy.
"I was just walking my kids just a little while before that, so it's really sort of freaked me out."
John Waite, who lives nearby, described hearing a very loud engine noise while sitting in his garden.
"There was black smoke which was pouring out for about five minutes after the crash. At the moment the area is full of helicopters. One has landed at the back of the school which is nearby. The smoke now seems to have stopped, maybe the fire is under control now."
Mr Waite said he and fellow members of the local residents' association had been concerned about the planes landing so close to the nearby Princess Royal Hospital.
He said: "They come over the hospital about 700ft above it."
