British Grand Prix Travel

British Grand Prix 2008 – Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire.

 

Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July 2008

 

The British Grand Prix comes to Silverstone again this year, so siginificant traffic disruption is expected in the area over the three days.

 

Friday 6th July is the day of the F1 practice session. Gates open at 6am with events ongoing until 8pm

 

Saturday 7th July is the day of the F1 qualifying session. Gates open at 6am with events ongoing until 8pm.

 

Sunday 8th July is the day of the F1 Grand Prix. Gates open at 5am with events ongoing until approximately 4:15pm.

 

 

Getting to Silverstone by car

From the M40: exit at Junction 10. Join the A43 signposted to Northampton. Silverstone is signposted from the A43.

From the M1: exit at Junction 15a. Follow signs for the A43 to Oxford. Silverstone is signposted from the A43.

 
Road closures

 A43 closed to through traffic between Towcester and Brackley between 4:30am and 9:00pm

The A43 will be closed to through traffic on all three days between the A5 at Towcester and the A422 at Brackley. There will be a one-way system in operation on the A43. Only traffic heading to Silverstone in the mornings, and away from Silverstone in the afternoon / evenings will be allowed to use the A43 between 4:30am and 9:00pm each day.

 

 

Diversions

On all three days, non-race traffic will be diverted along the A508, A422 and A421 and vice versa. There will also be other diversions in place for local traffic in the area.

 

 

Park and Ride

A Park and Ride service will operate to and from the circuit on the Sunday. The two venues are:

 

Traffic from the M1 – Sixfields Stadium

 

Traffic from the M40 - Hinton in the Hedges Airfield

 

The sites will open from 2am on Sunday for early arrivals, with the first buses due to leave for Silverstone at 4:30am. Return journeys will commence roughly half an hour after the end of the Grand Prix, with the last services leaving Silverstone at 7:45pm.

 

Getting to Silverstone by train

The nearest stations are Northampton and Milton Keynes. London Midland and Virgin Trains operate services to these stations. Special buses run between Northampton and Silverstone on all three days and a special bus service operates between Milton Keynes and Silverstone on the Sunday only.

 

National Rail engineering works

Some engineering work may affect journeys. These are subject to change and you should check regis for live information.

On Saturday and Sunday Virgin trains will have a limited service, with some replacment bus services operating. It is strongly advised that you check your journey details before you leave
