Documentary Filmmaking course in Colchester


Signals Media Arts presents a unique opportunity to take part in a practical 10 week course in Documentary Filmmaking. Our experienced tutor will take you through interview techniques and camera and editing skills using our industry standard equipment to help you create a broadcast quality documentary. Starts Saturday 7th June from 2-6pm and continues every Saturday thereafter until 9th August. This workshop costs £400 for the ten sessions or £320 for concessions. Places are limited so book early! Want to work on a film set in Great Yarmouth?

 

There are exciting opportunities for improver/trainees to work on the production of a new Film Four comedy 'Curtains' filmed in Great Yarmouth. Are you interested in camera, sound, make-up and hair, costume, art department or shadowing the producer, and director of photography? Successful applicants must demonstrate that they have some experience in the above areas, this can be on a short, feature or television. This is not for new entrants, but is a continuing professional development opportunity to get some great experience on your CV. The 2008 UK Film Council Short Film Completion Fund

http://www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk/shortfilm Producers or production companies are now invited to send a rough cut of their unfinished short film to Maya Vision International, along with a completed application form. The closing date is Friday 30th May 2008. If you don't have a rough cut by then, don't worry as the Completion Fund has expanded to 2 calls per year allowing up to 14 short films to be completed under the scheme each year. The next call, 2009/I, is scheduled to open in September 2008, but full details to follow in due course. Mayavision would love to receive a bumper crop of exciting new films and look forward to seeing your entries! Virgin Media Shorts Competition

 

Virgin Media Shorts aims to seek out, promote and profile Britain's best short film makers giving them a multi platform arena to showcase their work including online, TV, mobile, internet and on cinema screens across the UK. Filmmakers can now submit their short film of no longer than 2mins 30 seconds online at www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/?vmsrc=lfsz0805 and take part in the competition. The top 12 films will be blown up to a 35 mm print and shown on 211 cinema screens across the UK. The winner, selected by respected filmmakers in the industry will be given the chance to work directly with the UK Film Council and Virgin Media to develop and produce their next short film with a budget of up to £30,000. Deadline for submissions: 30th June 2008

 

AURORA is open for submissions 2008

AURORA is an annual event based in Norwich which focuses on the manipulated moving image - fusing artist retrospectives and thematic film programmes with artist meetings, installations and live performances. The festival is currently calling for entries to the following categories: Films, Music Videos and Installations. The award winners of Best Film and Best Music Video and an overall award – the Dick Arnall Award ‘for rouge vision in the manipulated moving image’ will each receive a unique trophy and a certificate in addition to £1,000 cash award. The Director’s Lab is looking for emerging directors

 

The UK Film Council, Film4, 4Talent and Skillset are seeking six emerging directors with strong, distinctive voices looking to move from shorts or documentary to features to take part in The Director’s Lab. Taking place during the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June, the Lab is an intensive, five-day personal and professional development programme that will equip the filmmakers with the skills, contacts and knowledge they need to develop their careers. Those selected to take part will have access to free accommodation, travel, subsistence, festival passes and help with childcare during the five days that The Lab takes place.

The programme includes creative and market sessions by leading industry figures. Each lab participant will also be matched with a director mentor who will provide creative support. Participants will have privileged access to filmmakers attending the festival plus private sessions with producers, agents and executives from the UK Film Council and Film4. They will also receive personal ongoing career consultation sessions. EIFF will provide festival passes and access to industry events. Call for artists - VIDEOHOLICA 2008 Bulgaria

 

VIDEOHOLICA 2008 aims to make the contemporary video art available to the public with a chain of projections in public spaces. VIDEOHOLICA 2008 will present art films by well known artists and by emerging artists. VIDEOHOLICA 2008 will take a place in August 2008. There is no submission fee, deadline: by 31 June 2008. Mediabox grants available for youth media projects

 

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has invested £2 million in Mediabox for 2008. Mediabox is run by First Light Movies, Media Trust, Skillset and the UK Film Council. Mediabox is continuing the Mid and Big Mediabox grants to make and distribute youth-led media projects that express young people's ideas and views in a creative way, using their preferred media platform:
Mid Mediabox (for charitable trusts and unincorporated associations)
- grants of up to £20,000
Big Mediabox (for legally constituted organisations)
- grants of up to £40,000
Both Mid and Big Mediabox are open to youth and/or media focused organisations. Mediabox can only award grants to organisations and young people in England. Application is by a two stage process. There are two rounds for the scheme. Deadlines for 2008:
Round One
Stage 1 application: Tuesday 29 April, 2.00pm
Stage 2 - Full Submission: Tuesday 10 June, 2.00pm
Round Two
Stage 1 application: Tuesday 19 August, 2.00pm
Stage 2 - Full Submission: Tuesday 30 September, 2.00pm
