i love the angel of the north - when i've been away, seeing it from the train means i'm nearly home. Gina hope, newcastle
We love it and always have. It’s a beautiful symbol of the North East. It has such a presence in the area that the image is now used in the opening of news, features, films, sports etc.10 years on, it still arouses interest with so many visitors. This unique piece of sculpture has become a much loved friend and if it could speak, it would be in a Geordie accent!!
Thank You Anthony Gormley, you have proved your critics wrong.

You asked for views on the Angel.
Shortly after it was erected I wrote lots of individual verses to reflect what people were saying and most verses were then made into a poem which I published as a bookmark. Many people in the North East and beyond will still have one of these
Angel Odear
What's happened to the Summer?
It's such a bloomin' shame
It's never stopped peein' doon
Since that Angel came
It's not global warming
Let's dispel those fears
The waater faallin' doon on us
Is little Angel tears
'Cos they're aall up there blubbin'
Their image is doon the pan
Folks were dyin' te get to heaven
Now nebody wants te gan
When a bairn now draws an angel
Ye knaa what yer get
Not a nice heavenly body
But a rusty jumbo jet
Lookin' like it's been landed
By a pilot from ower the toon
Who didn't knaa the proper way
And just revorsed it doon
I can see it clearly from wor hoose
Which isn't very nice
Whaat wi' that and the neighbour's clapped oot car
It's knocked thoosands off the price
Folk taalk of it's mystic powers
Just give it's feet a rub
One local wifie did it
And now she's in the club
A lottery grant paid for it
So aah shouldn't moan and shout
It may be an ugly rusty thing
But still... it cost us nowt
Personally, I can't abide it
But hinnies, let's be fair
Love it or loathe it
We aall knaa it's there

At first I didn't like the Angel of the North as I thought it looked a bit obtrusive but now when I see it I think it looks wonderful. When I am approaching it I know that I am coming home. I now class it as a great Landmark.

The Angle of the North or better known as the ‘Rusty Angle’ is an ugly blot on the landscape. It is the object of ridicule for visitors from other parts of the UK and it often raises a titter from foreigners. If it has brought any supposed investment to the North East as claimed by Gateshead Council then it is for the laugh it gave those investors. With the designer laughing all the way the Bank.

Our move from Scotland to the North East coincided with the introduction of the Angel.
Everytime we pass on the A1 on route to Scotland at the weekends we always say to the Angel:
Hello
"Wrap your arms around us and keep us safe until we return"
She has certainly done that for us!
Thankyou
I LOVE IT!!! I have visited on a number of occasions and the Angel is every bit as spectacular up close as it is from afar.
Yes - you either love or hate the Angel of the North, but at least it provokes deep emotion either way - in my book - thats an incredibly successful piece of art.

May i say that as a local resident I love the angel, not least when I return home from a long journey or from travelling abroad.
Once the angel comes into view then i know i'm home and safe.
