Water in Northants safe to drink again

People living around Northampton and Daventry can drink their tap water again without boiling it first. Anglian Water says all supplies are now clear of the Cryptosprodium bug, which can cause stomach upsets. 250,000 people were affected after it was found at Pitsford Water Treatment Works in June. It was caused by a rotting rabbit which had got into the water. A number of people have fallen ill.

¹ 15 cases of the bug are now confirmed, with another 16 people under investigation.

¹  It's confirmed that six people have fallen ill as a result of the Cryptosporidium bug in water.

¹  Anglian Water gives supplies in Northamptonshire the all-clear from the Cryptosporidium bug.

Thursday 3rd July 2008:
¹ Anglian Water says even more people will have clean supplies by the end of the week than first thought, with 75% of those affected getting drinkable water again. Daventry though will have to wait until next Friday.

Wednesday 2nd July 2008:
¹ Anglian Water hopes to have 75% of people in Northampton back to normal by the end of the week, after it confirmed the Pitsford water treatment works had been cleared of the bug.

Tuesday 1st July 2008:
¹ Karl Heidel reports that over 1,600 kilometres of pipes will need to be cleaned before water supplies can be returned to normal. More people are also asking for bottled water, on what's the hottest day of the year so far.

¹ Matthew Hudson reports, as Anglian Water asks people not to water their gardens while it cleans supplies of Cryptosporidium.
