Healthcare Commission survey results

Thames Valley hospitals have rated well in the latest survey of patient care.

The Healthcare Commission Report looked at what patients thought of their food, cleanliness and treatment of staff while in hospital. Hospitals also did well for single sex ward care, particularly the Nuffield in Oxford and the Royal Berkshire in Reading.

Elsewhere in the region, the results were also positive, with Brighton and Sussex Hospital one of the top for patient care - almost 50 per cent gave them an "excellent" rating.

Dorset County Hospital also scored highly: 82 per cent felt they had received very good care.

In Kent, the survey found patients are more likely to have to share mixed sex wards than enywhre else in the country. Hospitals under the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust and the Medway Trust fared worst. The report says it's because they have some of the oldest hospital buildings in the country.
