Digital switchover in the ITV West region is due to take place in 2010. This is when you’ll stop receiving the traditional five channels you’ve been watching for years on analogue through your aerial. Instead they’ll be available digitally through your aerial, along with many other channels and interactive services.
The main West transmitters at Mendip, Bristol Kings Weston and Bristol Ilchester Cresent are already broadcasting both analogue and digital signals, and other smaller local transmitters will follow. All you need to do is make the switch. If you don’t do it in time, you’ll no longer be able to watch TV!
To carry on getting the channels through your aerial, you’ll need a set-top box or modern television with a digital receiver built in. Some people may also need a new TV aerial. Contact a local aerial specialist for more details.
But an aerial is no longer the only way to receive TV. You can also get digital programmes through a satellite dish, cable system or broadband. You just need to decide which is the best for you.
ITV West will provide more coverage in the coming years to help you make the switch, but in the meantime you can find more information and details of how to get the different options at www.digitaluk.co.uk
