Digital switchover in the ITV Westcountry region is due to take place in 2009. This is when you’ll stop receiving the traditional five channels you’ve been watching for years on analogue through your aerial. Instead they’ll be available digitally through your aerial, along with many other channels and interactive services.
The main Westcountry transmitters at Beacon Hill, Stockland Hill, Huntshaw Cross, Redruth and Caradon Hill are already broadcasting both analogue and digital signals, and other smaller local transmitters will follow. All you need to do is make the switch. By June 2009 the analogue signal will be turned off, so if you don’t do it in time, you’ll no longer be able to watch TV!
To carry on getting the channels through your aerial, you’ll need a set-top box or modern television with a digital receiver built in. Some people may also need a new TV aerial. Contact a local aerial specialist for more details.
Of course, an aerial is no longer the only way to receive TV. You can also get digital programmes through a satellite dish, cable system or broadband. You just need to decide which is the best for you.
ITV Westcountry will provide more coverage in the coming year to help you make the switch, but in the meantime you can find more information and details of how to get the different options at Digital UK's website here.
