The UK digital switchover is coming – make sure you’re ready.
When will Tyne Tees area be affected?
Switchover will start in the Tyne Tees TV region in 2012.
If you live in this region, you need to make sure every TV set in your home is ready for switchover. Digital UK will let you know the exact date nine months before your switchover. They will also send you further information well in advance of 2012 to help you get ready for the switchover.
If you are thinking of planning ahead and upgrading your TV or recording equipment now, make sure you buy one with the official digital (tick) logo.
Postcode Checker
You can use the Digital UK postcode checker to see how and when your town will be affected by the switchover. This will also tell you what kind of digital TV you will be receiving in 2012.
Once switchover happens, the coverage of digital TV through an aerial (Freeview) will increase significantly. If you get a good picture on the traditional system now, you should be able to get a digital signal through your aerial (via a digital box) at switchover.
How can I receive digital TV?
Analogue television comes through a standard TV aerial. Digital TV, however, can come through any of the following methods, depending on what kind of digital telly you choose:
- an aerial (either by connecting a set top box to your existing TV or buying an integrated digital television)
- a cable
- a phone connection
- via satellite
After switching to digital you will be able to receive lots more TV channels than the regular analogue ones. You will now have a wide choice of viewing including ITV1, 2, 3 and 4. To find out more about the digital ITV channels click here.
