A joint services expedition to climb one of the highest and most dangerous mountains in the world has now established its Base Camp. The men and women of the army, navy and air force are attempting to reach the top of Makalu in the Himalayas – which peaks at 8,463metres above sea level – that’s almost 28,000 feet.
ITV Local will be tracking their progress as they complete the expedition. We’ve been sent these exclusive pictures of what life is like at Base Camp, as the climbers prepare for the task ahead.
